I did not remove the cotton pieces on the left and right part. This will protect the skins when we will do the stitching. ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/007_x.jpg) When looking at the skins, there is no apparent holes, skins are thick, so this plaid will be resistant over the long term. Still, there are locations where hairs are missing. On the inside, you can clearly the the joint between the skins. ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/008_x.jpg) # Detaching the sleeves I need to detach the sleeves by cutting the stitching between the body and the sleeves. Before ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/009_x.jpg) During: ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/010_x.jpg) After: ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/011_x.jpg) One sleeve ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/012_x.jpg) Two sleeves: ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/013_x.jpg) # Flattening Now that sleeves are removed, we need to unroll the coat. ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/014_x.jpg) We cut from the top of the sleeve to the top of the coat. ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/015_x.jpg) And remove the collar from the coat ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/018_x.jpg) The problem with this coat is that it is adjusted to the chest. Therefore, you cannot have it flat. Here, when we put the top flat, we need to bend the bottom part ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/017_x.jpg) # Pocket removal Unless you want magic pockets in your plaid, we need to remove them. Plus, from the outside, hairs are missing there. ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/020_x.jpg) Before ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/019_x.jpg) After ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/021_x.jpg) # Closing the Sleeve holes ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/025_x.jpg) After the cut: ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/026_x.jpg) Maintening both parts together for stitching. ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/028_x.jpg) Two pieces stitched together ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/031_x.jpg) We see it from the outside because the skin pattern does not correspond. Nevertheless, this is not shocking. ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/032_x.jpg) ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/032_x_limits.jpg) Nevertheless, it does not solve the problem of flatness. ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/035_x.jpg) ## Filling the Holes There are a few locations where hairs are missing. ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/036_x.jpg) To identify where I should open the coat on the inside, I used a needle to mark the skin. ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/038_x.jpg) ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/038_x_holes.jpg) And draw with a pen: ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/041_x.jpg) After cutting it, we now have a hole. ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/043_x.jpg) I used another piece of fur (from the part that we removed near the sleeves) We stitch them together ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/044_x.jpg) ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/046_x.jpg) When one edge is stitched ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/045_x.jpg) Now, we do not see anything: ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/048_x.jpg) (from far away. If you get closer, you can identify where holes have been repaired because fur color pattern does not match). ## Making the top right Because of the coat, the top border is irregular. ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/050_x.jpg) We need to cut it to ease the stitching with the new liner. We first draw an approximative line: ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/051_x.jpg) And next cut and get something "flat". ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/052_x.jpg) We do not need a full right line, unless you want something perflectly straight. # Building the Plaid ## Making the borders We want to make a border the following way: A band 14 cm wide. 2 cm for the border, 5 cm for the hem. Raw piece: ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/053_x.jpg) Putting the needles ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/055_x.jpg) Stitching: ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/056_x.jpg) Both edges: ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/054_x.jpg) ### Stitching two pieces together I bought a `1m x 1.40m` liner. Therefore, I can make 6 bands of `1.40m` long. However, my plaid perimeter is around `5m`. It is much easier to stich now the bands together. ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/049_x.jpg) ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/057_x.jpg) ### Hem I make the hem by stitching the band with duffle inside. ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/058_x.jpg) ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/060_x.jpg) I can stitch is with the sewing machine to the fur. ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/062_x.jpg) ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/064_x.jpg) We can see the stitching, but this is not problematic. ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/065_x.jpg) With the border all around: ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/067_x.jpg) ## Cutting the Liner Because the coat is not flat, I will make the liner in two pieces. To get the bottom one, which is too big for a paper pattern I putted the fur directly on the liner. I used a pen to draw the contour. ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/069_x.jpg) To cut the appropriate fabric size, I putted the ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/071_x.jpg) Pieces for the top: ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/072_x.jpg) After stitching the two pieces together: ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/073_x.jpg) ## Stitching the liner to the fur I sewed three edges together with fur facing the outside liner. I did the stitching between the border and the liner (not between fur skin and liner). I start placing needles to fix the liner to the border. ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/074_x.jpg) We obtain ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/075_x.jpg) Now we have three edges stitched together, we put the fur facing out to stitch the last edge. ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/076_x.jpg) We sew the last edge using the sewing machine. # Final Result ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/078_x.jpg) ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/079_x.jpg) ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/077_x.jpg) ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/080_x.jpg) ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/084_x.jpg) This would be a perfect cover when reading book in my sofa. ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/096_x.jpg) ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/094_x.jpg) ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/086_x.jpg) ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/093_x.jpg) Does not take that much space for "rangement" ![](/assets/images/fourrure_lapin/089_x.jpg)
